This report includes three topical essays that highlight some of the most prominent themes discussed and debated at the conference—disaggregating the various kinds of private sector actors involved in poverty alleviation efforts around the world, fostering entire industries’ “ecosystems” within developing countries, reforming US government engagement with the private sector for global development, etc.—drawing from the rich roundtable discussion and follow-up research.

In India, the business correspondent (BC)  model is considered an innovative way to extend financial services to the large un(der)served population. Grameen Foundation and Enclude convened all the stakeholders involved in India’s BC model value chain and encouraged them to share their experiences, brainstorm solutions that are within the purview of the existing regulatory norms and highlight the macro issues that require policy amendments from the regulators and banks. The SEEP Network released this study of the microfinance sector which is a partnership between Citi Microfinance, the Council of Microfinance Equity Funds (CMEF), and the SEEP Network, with support from Enclude.
